AGRICULTURE
Nuova Pievanella is not just synonymous with tourism in the Tuscan countryside, but also with the farming of organic products according to local tradition.
The farm occupies 310 hectares of land, 140 of which are wooded.
Production is centred around olive oil and wine in particular, but at Nuova Pievanella we also grow grain, organic fruits and vegetables, all of which are served in our restaurant. We can ensure that our guests experience only authentic dishes deriving from quality ingredients.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
The farm has 3500 olive trees of different types planted on 10 hectares of land. The olives are picked by hand and pressed in our "frantoio", the modern olive press that is used exclusively for our own olives, guaranteeing the purity of the final product.
The excellent extra virgin olive oil is destined, in part, for use in the agriturismo's restaurant, for sale to our guests, and, in part, for sale to the general public through the Weindepot Toscana, located in Nuremberg, Germany.
Montecucco D.O.C. Wine
Alfio and Ursula's next big project is the production of Montecucco D.O.C. wine.
About 15 hectares of new vineyards have been planted with local species of grapes. Their intent is to bring back to this area the ancient tradition of wine-growing, which actually predated the cultivation of vines in the area of Montalcino, and which has been largely forgotten in recent years.
The first vintage of D.O.C. Montecucco produced by Nuova Pievanella will be 2005. In the meantime, preparations are underway for the facilities for processing of the grapes and the cellars for the ageing of the wine.
